Misdemeanor
A misdemeanor is defined as a criminal offense that is less serious than a felony and generally punishable by a fine, a jail term of up to a year, or both. Although generally considered minor, a California misdemeanor should be taken seriously because, if convicted, it results in your having a criminal record.  The affect it may have on your lives and livelihood may be significant

Here are some facts about misdemeanors:

  • Misdemeanors may be raised to a felony, depending on circumstances
  • A misdemeanor will result in a criminal record
  • A misdemeanor will most likely appear on a background check

A stated above, a misdemeanor conviction will result in a criminal record.  A criminal record can affect your future employability.  Companies routinely perform pre-employment background checks and screening on all applicants.  Most employers will not hire an applicant with a criminal background.

Our expert attorneys at Matrix Law will sit down to discuss the facts of your case and prepare any necessary defenses.  They will also contact the prosecutor’s office in advance of your first court date and attempt to speak on your behalf in order to dismiss the case or reduce the charges. If you would like to speak with one of our attorneys, please call us at (insert #)

Felony

In California a felony is a serious offense such as an assault & battery with bodily harm, domestic violence, murder, rape, kidnapping, certain sexual offenses, and other violent crimes.  Felonies are punishable by a jail term in excess of one year.

If you are convicted of a felony in California, your conviction could result in jail or prison time, substantial fines, court ordered classes, loss of driving privileges and other court-ordered consequences. In all likelihood you could end up with a criminal conviction on your record, permanently tarnishing your reputation and impacting your future, including your employment opportunities. If you are facing felony charges, Matrix Law can help. Our experienced attorneys can help with the reduction or dismissal of charges.  For a confidential consultation, please contact our office at 1-800-380-1591

Drug Trafficking

Drug trafficking generally refers to the sale and distribution of illegal drugs. Penalties for federal drug trafficking convictions vary according to the quantity of the controlled substance involved in the transaction. A drug trafficking conviction may also lead to denial of federal benefits and forfeiture of personal property and real estate.

Our legal team at Matrix Law can help you.  If your offense is relatively minor, or a first offense, you may very well qualify for an alternative to jail.  Proposition 36 sends drug offenders to treatment and probation instead of prison and charges are dismissed after treatment is completed.  As a drug crimes lawyer, Matrix Law defends the rights of people charged with California drug crimes.
